New Field for Athletics Program Rich in Tradition

Pratt Field and Neuhoff-Lumley Track, Amherst College

With its start in 1860, Amherst College boosts the oldest athletics program in the nation. Today, over one third of the student body participates in varsity, intramural or club sports, and the school’s 27 intercollegiate sports teams are known as the Lord Jeffs.

With its heavy use and rich history, the 121-year Pratt Field and outdated fieldhouse was in need of an overhaul. Upon completion of a feasibility study, BVH was part of the design team for a major renovation and expansion of the College’s Pratt Field and Neuhoff-Lumley Track.

The new 2,500-seat stadium features a synthetic turf field, an 8-lane all-weather track, a new press box at the top of the home grandstands, and concessions.

The project also includes a new 15,000-SF fieldhouse, accommodating the football, field hockey, softball, track and lacrosse teams at Amherst. The expansion is also equipped with locker rooms, restrooms, training rooms and meeting facilities.
