Innovative Police Station Design Promotes Safety & Security
Police station designs help shape a community’s perception of its environment, and the new Danbury Police Station is a distinctive law enforcement facility that promotes safety and security.
Located on a highly visible Main Street site, the new Danbury Police Station met several critical needs for the City; it replaced its outdated and overcrowded police station with a new facility that better meets the space needs of its 200-member police department. The facility also consolidated police operations under one roof, and created a high-tech, energy-efficient public safety facility that responds to contemporary service requirements.
Designed to complement the Victorian-style architecture of the area, the brick veneer structure was designed to accommodate future growth. The new building includes energy-efficient lighting and HVAC systems, a state-of-the-art security system, and a 31,500-SF parking deck. The new Police Station is also equipped with public and community rooms, administrative offices, including a detective bureau with computer crime lab, a six-lane firearms training range and training classroom, and centralized dispatch center.
The design and construction team was able to complete this project ahead of schedule and within four years of inception, including twenty-two months of construction.
