IPD Facilitates Energy-Efficient Hospital
The opening of the new MaineGeneral Medical Center (MGMC) merged two hospital campuses located 20 miles apart to one single location. The design and construction of this new facility followed the principles of Integrated Project Delivery (IPD), a tri-party agreement signed by the owner, architect, and contractor that integrates the skills and capabilities of the full project team throughout the entire process. The largest healthcare project in New England to utilize IPD, the project was completed a full 10 months ahead of schedule and delivered below budget as a result of the process. As well, the IPD team members were able to return approximately $20 million in value-added savings and to the energy-efficient hospital.
The facility includes 192 bed inpatient capacity, Interventional Suite with 16 procedure rooms, 27 room Emergency Department, 12 Operating Rooms, Imaging with 25 procedure rooms, a birthing suite, Cardiac rehab, Conference Center, Education Pavilion, administrative and support services, a two-story MOB and a central utility plant.
The hospital is the first healthcare facility in Maine and the second in the nation to be built successfully to the LEED Gold for Healthcare standards.
