Construction & Renovations
Bangor, ME
Phase One of EMMC's master plan is a $158 million construction project including 350,000 SF of new construction, plus 60,000 SF of renovations. The project is centered around a new surgical suite with 14 operating rooms, a new Sterile Processing & Distribution department, and renovation/addition of an adjacent existing building to accommodate pre- and post-operative spaces for both inpatient and outpatient surgery. The cardiac focus of the new 10-story building includes one floor of intensive/cardiac care, plus three floors of telemetry (intermediate care) nursing units, a floor dedicated to non-invasive cardiology and a floor for invasive cardiology with nine cardiac catheterization/EP/Interventional labs. In addition, the project includes a new neonatal intensive care unit built on top of an existing structure and adjacent obstetrics unit in a renovated nursing floor.
The existing central utility plant is being expanded to accommodate two new 600 HP boilers, 1200 tons of new chillers, a new 1.5 MW emergency generator, and major upgrades to the campus medium voltage normal and essential electrical distribution system. The challenge of this project design was maintaining connectivity with the existing facility and minimizing disruptions when existing utilities are severed to allow construction of the new structure. Utilizing REVIT Structure, REVIT MEP and AutoCAD MEP 2008, BVH performed structural, MEP engineering and technology design for this project. |
