Midstate Medical Center
Emergency Department & Patient Care Pavilion

Meriden, CT

BVH provided structural, mechanical and electrical engineering design for a $45.5-million expansion, the largest in the history of the Hospital. The new, four-story building includes 100,000 square feet, expanding Midstate Medical Centerís existing emergency department and creating an inpatient care pavilion with private rooms. Two floors of the building house medical offices and inpatient beds. The central plant was also expanded to accommodate the growth with an additional 7,500 square feet and a new boiler, a new chiller, new switchgear, and a new generator. Complex phasing of construction, including temporary emergency department entrance and ambulance bay, was required to implement the project with minimal disruption to patients and staff.
