This new 360,000-SF facility in downtown New Haven consolidates the two existing Gateway Community College campuses. The new facility is a four-story brick and glass structure with a multilevel atrium connecting with a separate 600-space parking garage. Designed for LEED Gold certification, energy-efficiency is a cornerstone of the planned campus, utilizing renewable and alternative energy technologies including solar hot water, ice storage, digital lighting controls, and photovoltaics. The campus will maximize the use of energy efficient systems and equipment, and reduce the demand on the existing energy utilities. Opening in 2012 to serve 7,000 full-time students, the new building contains 115 classrooms, laboratories, academic and administrative offices, a library, study areas, general use space for meeting and dining, and support services for storage, mailroom, and media production. BVH is providing mechanical and electrical system evaluation and design, structural peer review services, and technology design services.
