Celebrating Discovery & Diversity

Christopher Columbus Family Academy

New Haven, Connecticut

With Columbus Family Academy, the design team focused on a theme of discovery, using interior and exterior spaces to help students relate to their surroundings and the world at large.

This new 80,000-SF urban school serves 660 students in grades Pre-K through 8, and is situated between a residential neighborhood and a retail district. The new dual language school includes a library media center, gymnasium, cafetorium, classrooms, guidance and support services, as well as community meeting rooms.

A plaza on the main street side and play fields are also designated for community use.
