Expanding UTRC’s Research Capabilities

United Technologies Research Center

East Hartford, Connecticut

The United Technologies Research Center (UTRC) conducted an evaluation of their campus, consisting of 13 buildings totaling approximately 495,000 square feet, of which 100,000 square feet is laboratory space. The evaluation included how best to plan for growth, flexibility, and sustainability in the facilities on campus going forward. With most of the facility and campus infrastructure at or beyond its life expectancy, BVH worked with the architect to perform a study of the campus and its ability to support its research and laboratory functions needs.

Subsequently, BVH was part of the team awarded the design of approximately 142,000 SF of renovations and 38,000 SF in additions on the East Hartford campus. With completion in the summer of  2017, the new facility significantly expands the company’s research capabilities in the areas of intelligent systems, advanced materials and manufacturing, and revolutionary propulsion and power technologies.
